Learn how the 20th century came to understand and accept our evolutionary past. In 1924, a human skull believed to be the first hint of human evolution in the world was found in South Africa by neurologist Raymond Dart. While the discovery made headlines around the world, most scientists rejected this possibility, believing instead that all humans evolved from Asia.
South African scientist Robert Broom, however, immediately appreciated the find's significance and began his life's mission - a search for more skulls. In 1936, in this Sterkfontein caves of South Africa, he found the skulls that would prove that Africa was the birthplace of human evolution.
