註釋

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days is a realistic fiction novel written by American author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney, the fourth book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series [1] It was released on October 12, 2009 in the USA and October 13, 2009 in Canada.

[edit] PlotDog Days starts with Greg Heffley and Rowley Jefferson going to Rowley's country club after school closes for the summer, but Greg is kicked out, because he complains of even the smallest predicaments. Then the beach trip that he was looking forward to is canceled because the Heffleys don't have enough money; they resort to going to the town pool, which Greg dislikes because of its open showers showing large, hairy men.

Later, Greg and Rowley have a sleepover together, and watch a horror movie named Hello, You're Dead, taken from Rodrick's room. After the movie, Greg and Rowley soon became paranoid on account of a muddy hand that might strangle them, since the hand came right toward the screen before the end. They also hide in the shower all night and Greg's father finds them in the bathroom in the morning. Susan, Greg's mom finds out about Greg watching the horror movie and starts a reading club called "Reading is Fun" in which Greg is the only participant after two days. The reading program, however, is put to a stop when Mr. Jefferson arrives with a huge bill that Greg and Rowley spent on fruit smoothies at the country club, and he forces Greg and Rowley to pay it off.

Greg and Rowley decide to do a lawn care service called the "V.I.P. Lawn Care Service" to pay the debt. They make a poster, but after printing one copy, Mr. Jefferson says they cannot use his computer. Greg and Rowley show the poster to the neighbors. Mrs. Canfield, who lives on Greg's grandmother's street, is their first customer. Unfortunately, the job ends as a fiasco when the boys have never used a lawn mower before. When Greg tells Rowley he has to do most of the work while Greg holds the money, that makes Rowley angry and he quits. Greg mows Mrs. Canfield's lawn by himself, but she refuses to pay him because he didn't mow all of her lawn.

Greg's birthday comes, and he wants money. During the party, Susan confiscates said money to pay off Rowley's dad's smoothie bill. Greg and his mom run into the Jeffersons in the supermarket and they say they are going to the beach and that Greg can come with them. Greg is kicked out when he zaps Rowley using static electricity in the hotel.

[edit] Film AdaptationAs the second sequel to Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days is a combination of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. The film takes place in the summer, and there are scenes taken from both of the two books, thus giving the film the title Dog Days instead of The Last Straw. The film was given a release date of August 3, 2012
